mike, are you sure you mean Hurghada?? In my opinion it's like Sharm, only a lot worse. OPs description sounds as if Dahab may be what she needs, fulfils all criteria.

Nuweiba is quiet even at busy times - so with recent events reducing the numbers of tourists dramatically, it may be pretty much deserted of travellers, whereas Dahab, although most likely very quiet itself, may still have a few other travellers to socialise with...

Dahab is the place to go. I can recommend Shams Dive Centre. Great snorkelling too. Really easy and relaxed, loads of restaurants all right there.

Stefo you are right, Dahab is absolutely fantastic too. I was just listing a couple of places off the top of my head after a long day in work, it wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list. And yes Hurghada is very touristy but in my opinion nothing is as bad as Sharm!

If you holiday in the egyptian resoprts such as Hurghada and Sharm you are not going to be neither with genuine travellers neither with genuine egyptian people (though the latter is not something you seem to care for).
Currently most of the people who remain there are eastern european who dont care about any cultural tourism or travel experiences other that sun and sea worshipping.

I think Dahab is what you are looking for, it has many famous diving sites, fabulous beaches and awesome marine life. In Dabab you will also find a lot of hotels facilitating diving along with famous diving centers, actually I recommend Iberotel Dahabeya as it really has a beautiful scenery and has many facilities including scuba diving and windsurfing.
