Hi, Which is better for diving Sharm or Hurghada? My husband and I have dove Sharm several times and we're considering checking out Hurghada since we haven't been there before. The issue is that my sister and her husband are coming to visit and they haven't dove the Red Sea so we want to make sure we dive someplace as good as if not better than Sharm. Thanks in advance for any advice. Kim

Hello Krmanion,
Hurghada is very nice and the further south you go the nicer it becomes, try booking a liveaboard from Safaga or Marsa Alam. If you feel adventurous enough and don't mind driving long distances go all the way to Hamata and take a boat to St. John; the islands an reefs around there and simply fabulous, way beyond anything you will ever see in Sharm or Hurghada.
Have a safe trip,

Hurghada is a big touristic factory aiming at Westerners travelling with cheap tour operators. This is really not the best place to be in Egypt. Sharm is also a horrible tourist factory but it is supposed to be higher-ranking, due to its location in Sinai and because it has the best diving sites in terms of fish and shipwrecks.
Now I would encourage you to go to Dahab, about 1h30 from Sharm by the road. This is where you'll encounter all young expatriates living in Cairo and experienced divers. Sharm and Hurghada cater for mass tourism, Dahab is for people who know better.

Come on!
Offcourse the villages Hurghada and Sharm both are not a bit interesting! There built for/by tourists! But that's not why you go there is it? Its the magnificent red sea whitch is the sole atraction of these places, right?
Both places heve exellent dive-spots (worlds best!) within an hour sailing. Hurghada has allso lots of "housereefs". Some of these are very good for snorkeling!
Furthermore Hurghada gives you the possibility to take the bus (6 hours) to Luxor.
Offcourse; if you've got the budget and the time there are (a tiny bit) more authentic places, but both Hurghada and Sharm (nowadays Marsa Alam too) have there own airport (cheap flights) and are therefor easier to travel to!
Have fun!
