Agree with #1.
Too much sand.
The trip is worthwhile by Boksi though. Put your bike on that and do it.
Cheers.

Not that I have done it, but I have travelled the route by public transport and met 4 people on the boat from Aswan to Wadi Halfa who had cycled from Cairo and were on their way south, met 1 guy in Ethiopia who had come from Cairo thur Sudan and (funnily enough) he was still alive and well. I'm not saying it will be easy, there are sections in Egypt (mainly south of Luxor) where the police may not let you ride and you may need to take a bus, you can not ride from Aswan to Wadi Halfa and the road from Wadi Halfa South has a lot of sand and will be very tough going. It is possible and would be a great adventure.

Hello....

Maybe misunderstood......

It is technically possible ; the problem is that all the way it will be a deal with the police ; it is not really forbidden ... It is just up to the choice of the police to let you go, to give you an escort, or to charge you an escort.... There is no real danger, just politics and police officer who don't want problems with hierarchy.
Beetween extra cost of private escort, hotels which overcharge because you will be a problem for them - police won't let you stay in the countryside - it could cost a lot of money too.

Thanks no5 and NO 6. You confirmed what I have found out so far. I will give it try in January and I will see how far the police let me go.
