Can anybody recommend a nice, cheap place to stay in cairo with a swimming pool? i am going in mid october (hoping it will be sunny???) and have a few days alone before my friend arrives and we go on a tour and would like somewhere to work on my tan whilst i wait for her!
Would it be possible (and safe, im a 23 year old girl) to make a day trip to alexandria? and what other days trips do you recommend?
Where in egypt is the best place to get jewellery? I really want to get a gold necklace made with my name in it....We will be in cairo, aswan, luxor and dhahb (know that is spelt very wrong but assuming you know what i mean) which of these places makes the best jewellery?
Thank you lots!!!

Hey there
i think in Mid October it will be a shoulder season ( high season ) and some hotel prices are ging higher a little bit
but if you are looking for nice , clean , cheap 5 stars hotel i can suggest to you Grand Pyramids hotel at Giza city ( pyramids view rooms and garden , swimming pool as well )
if you are alone - solo traveler - 23 years old my openion not to travel alone to Alexandria by your self . i suggest also to join any group of tourists with companies offering daily day trips from Cairo
best places to buy jewellery are in Cairo - where you can keep your invoice - check Khan Elkhalili which is old market and most shops are well known to the tourism police & selling gold for the local value as in daily news papers
i hope that info can helps .

Yeh, agree with above post.
Buy jewellery in Cairo. You will cop more hassel in the other places.

Hello......
I can't find any good rason not to go to Alexandria alone by train.... Easy, safe.... Where is the problem ?..... Compagnies will just cost a lot for a bonus not far from zero.
Swimming pools are not a great deal in Cairo. And it does for sure not worse to go as far as the pyramids for accomodation ; from there everything will be complicated and expensive.

I agree that going to Alexandria alone is easy and safe. And I generally found that I got harassed a lot less in Alex than I did in Cairo -- though as I've said in other posts here, the harassment was never dangerous, just annoying.
As for a pool in Cairo, I agree with micheltatra, pools aren't a great deal in Cairo. Some of the 5-star hotels will let you buy a pool pass for the day, but I can't remember how expensive they are. If you want a really cool experience, that doesn't come cheap but is worth every penny, rent a pool cabana for a day at the Oberoi Hotel at the pyramids. Gorgeous setting, right next to the pyramids, fantastic service, and you won't be ogled by the staff. You climb out of the pool and are looking up at the Pyramids. Very cool.

Personally I got a LOT less hassle in Alex than in Cairo.
As for hotels with pools, don't know of any cheap accommodation with pools but as the above said, you can get a day pass at some of the 5* downtown hotels, at Marriott and InterContinental Semiramis anyway.
Yes, if you can afford it, go down to the Mina House (which is part of the Oberoi group) and wallow in fabulous luxury.
