Would anyone happen to know the bus schedule from Asyut to Dakhla Oasis or beyond? I am planning on taking the 1:00 am train from Luxor to Asyut early next week which arrives at 5:30 am. I'd like to get on a bus ASAP after arriving in Asyut.

JonMW, so are you visiting the White Desert and Black Desert on your own? Is it possible? Are you planning to go a little bit offtrack or will you just see what can be seen from the road? Or will you look for an organized tour while in Dakhla / Farafra? We'll be in the region around Christmas so I'm really interested if you could share your program.

Yes, I'm planning to go by public transport from Luxor to Asyut then Asyut to Dakhla. Probably leave Sunday night.
After I get to Alexandria I'll let you know how it went.

First stage complete - Luxor to Asyut by train yesterday (7 hour trip, arrived 2 hours late), had to spend the night in Asyut, bus to Dakhla leaves at 11:00 am and 8:00 pm (6 hour trip).
Do you also know the time of the way back i.e. Dakhla do Asyut?
Do you know if the bus can carry bicycles on top or in baggage compartment?

Yes, 2 days but the train was supposed to get to Asyut at 6:45 pm so I should have been able to catch the 8 pm bus but I would have stayed in Al Kharga (3 hrs from Asyut) and gone to Dakhla early yesterday morning.
If there are 2 or more it makes sense to hire a taxi from Luxor to Al Kharga for 300-400LE which would save tons of time. Being by myself I considered it but only briefly.
Contrary to the tourist office in Luxor, there was no 10 pm bus from Asyut to Dakhla which would have worked out well.
There is a 1 am train from Luxor to Asyut then you could catch the 11 am bus after puttering around Asyut for several hours with a police escort if you run into one as I did.
As for bikes, I think you could get one in the bus luggage compartment.
