We have a lay-over in Cairo from 5:30am to 5:30 pm and would like to use the time to (re)visit the pyramids as last time we were on a tour and only didn't have much time. I would appreciate it if anyone can answer these questions:
1. How much should we pay for a taxi each way between the airport and pyramids?
2. How much time should we allow to get back to the airport from the pyramids considering afternoon traffic?
3. Any recommendations on where to eat nearby (breakfast and lunch)?

Was also wondering if tourist numbers are down at the moment or will it be as busy as last time?

Thanks!!

I would stay at the air port..the military has the right to arrest and detain any one for any reason..in the next week it may change..but last few days it is bad

OK - Now to get back to reality; you should probably plan on leaving Giza around 2pm.

You need to be back to the airport two hours prior to your flight and considering traffic you should allow around 90 minutes for the trip. It probably won't take that long, but one crash on the highway and traffic can get snarled up pretty bad (even worse than usual).

Tourist numbers are way down. It will not be very busy around the Pyramids. Of course, that's also bad news as the touts don't have as many people to harrass and you'll be fresh meat.

Others can give you abetter estimate of the cost of a taxi and recommendations on restaurants.

Have a great trip TRRK.

There is a pizza hut next to one of the entrances to the pyramids.

You can sit outside on the roof, eat pizza and look at the pyramids.
