Hello,
I fly from Madrid to Cairo next October 21st. My plan is as follow:
4 days in Cairo.
Night bus to Sharm spending a few days there for some snorkelling in Ras Mohammed.
Ferry to Hurgada and bus to Luxor.
4 days in Luxor visiting Abydos.
2 days cruise to Aswan visiting Abu Simbel from there.
Train from Aswan to Luxor and 7 days loop in the western desert visiting the 4 oasis with one night in the White Desert.
Night bus from Cairo to Siwa spending a few days there.
Any suggestions about this itinerary are very welcome.
Shukran!
That's a mighty good itinerary there. I don't know if 4 days is necessary for Cairo though. Depends on the type of traveler you are but I spent 3 days there but only because I knew some people living there. The city is a bit of a hole. Has a cool nightlife and vibe but was too much after awhile. Also when you're in the Sinai peninsula, consider taking 3-4 days to go see Petra in Jordan as well by land.
i dont agree with johnnyafrica - you can easily spend 4 days (and more) in cairo without getting bored. yes, its very very crowded and not always easy to visit, but there is so much to do and see. what you do obviously depends on your interests. i would spend at least one day to visit the pyramids (not only giza, but also saqqara and dashur), one day for islamic cairo, one day for coptic cairo, and one day for the egyptian museum.
i would really reconsider taking a night bus to sharm (and instead fly). flights are not expensive, and the security on overland travels to / from the sinai has been a big problem for many years. also, i'm not sure that there is a ferry from sharm to hurghada (there used to be one, but i'm quite sure that it stopped running 2-3 years ago).
cruise wise, the minimum you can do between luxor and assuan is 3 days. and that doesnt include abu simbel - with a day trip to abu simbel (much recommended, and even better is to stay there overnight), you need at least 4 days.
Thanks, Johnny for your words. I already been to Petra in a previous visit to Sinai (not the rest of Egypt). If I get tired of Cairo will spend less time, although I heard is interesting city.
Thanks Nathalie, for your information. I am very excited with this trip, specially knowing that little tourists are visiting the country right now.
Gracias
If you need accommodation in Luxor maybe this is an idea: www.inluxor.com, we can also help you with trips in and around Luxor

I'd like to suggest that (if you have the time) to fly to Abu Simbel from Assuan or Luxor and take a ship from there back to Assuan. Or you can do it the other way around. You can book the trips in advance or there in Egypt.

Advantages: The stars at night are unbelievable - no cities anywhere, see the sound & light show at Abu Simbel, enjoy the light changes throughout the day on the stone, explore the temples at leisure, probably not many on the ship now, guided visits to monuments along the way. This is, I thought, nicer than the Nile cruises, although doing both is the best.
