I am a senior-solo-budget traveler. I am beginning research for a trip to visit Peace Corps volunteers in Zambia June and July 2011.

What I'm asking please is for a can-do/no-can-do assessment of the following idea: fly into Johannesburg and travel overland on public transportation through Botswana to Lusaka, stopping along the way for sightseeing taking 5-7 days for the journey.

Does this make any sense at all? I'm not asking you to route out a trip or anything (unless it's easy and you're feeling generous!). I'll do the work but I'd really appreciate some feedback on the sensibility of such an endeavor.

Many Thanks!

Yeah, this would be a good trip. You could take an Intercape bus up to Gaborone in Botswana from Johannesburg. From there you could take local buses which are much cheaper.

Hey
I am also going to volunteer in Zambia in July for 2 months. I have been looking into visas and am a little confused by the whole situation of volunteering etc. If you could shed any light on this for me it'd be much appreciated
Many Thanks in advance
Jo

Hi Jo, I am visiting friends who are volunteers with the Peace Corps and have no experience or information about volunteering in Zambia except through the Peace Corps. I'm sorry I'm not able to help you. Good luck!
