Hello,

My wife and I are planning a Southern Africa tour and would love to check-out the Okavango Delta. However, to fit our schedule we could basically only fly into Maun on a Tuesday arriving at 12pm and fly out next day at 4pm.

We realize that that won't give us the full experience. However, if there is a memorable trip/excursion (two half-day trips? One trip with overnight in the Delta somewhere?) that can be made in that timeframe we would love to go for it (ideally on a Mokoro). We are not on a shoestring budget but don't want to spend excessive amounts either (e.g., $500 for over-flights).

Any ideas/recommendations would be appreciated!

Many thanks!

Depending on the time of year, you can be taken out by mokoro from Maun. Presumably, someone can pick you up the second day and drive you back to Maun

Or, just about every camp in the Delta is within a 30 minute flight in a small plane, so just about any place with space and mekoros will fit the bill.

I've transferred from an international flight to a small plane at Maun in under 5 minutes, as its not the worlds biggest airport, but I would allow slightly longer to be safe.

Most afternoon game drives would start between 3-4pm so its feasible to fit in a drive then, which may extend to a night drive depending on where you stay. (Night drives not allowed in National Park, but are in private concessions.)

So, its feasible, but whether you'll experience the feeling of Wilderness, which really separates the Delta from most other African game-viewing areas, is unlikely.

You could just as easily go to Chobe (a great park and very accessible), and see tons of animals in a short space of time, especially elephant. And save the Okavango for when you have time to savour and enjoy the wildness, remoteness, and tranquility.

My 2 cents.

I'm planning to spend 2-3 days in the delta coming from Maun, does anyone know how much would I spend on a budget tour for 2 people? any recommended "agency"?
