Hello All,

We're in the process of planning our route for our trip to Botswanna at the end of May. Time (and money!) is a bit tight and we're looking at the best way to reach Kruger (ideally via the Blyde River Canyon).

So far we're found a bus from Maun to Francistown which arrives at 2pm, then there is a bus leaving Francistown at 2.30pm to Gaborone.....

Is it possible to get to Palapye then pick up a bus to take us to the south african border at st Martin's drift then on to Polokwane. From there we plan to hire a car for a few days...

Or do we have to go down to Gaborone, then bus it to Pretoria and head to Nelspruit?

Any suggetions would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

sharpster, you have a problem, yes there is a bus from Maun to Francistown or more direct to Serowe then Palapye, but I have no kwoldge of a bus from Palapye via Martin's Drift border to Pietersburg (old name) which will be far shorter route to KNP than via Gaborone!!! When you leave KNP you can then go via Blyde River Canyon to Johannesburg and fly out. Why do you not book the smallest car to do this trip? All the roads are tarmac and you can then do your own gamedrive at your leisure in the KNP? Book a car at Maun and drop it off at Johannesburg (OR Tambo) Airport.
Public transport is very slow and very uncomfortable in Southern Africa unless you have a lot of time.
