In the past week, the ministry of tourism has decided to notify the public regarding future licensing of safari related businesses . This will effect many foreign owned and operated safari companies. Specifically, those that operate:
(a) guest houses (except corporate guest houses) A License
(b) mobile safaris C License
(c) motorboats F License
(d) tourist transfers E License
(e) camp and caravan sites A License
(f) mekoro H License
The above tourist enterprises are reserved for citizens of Botswana or companies which are wholly owned by citizens of Botswana.
How does this effect us? Before sending a deposit for services, you should confirm with any of these types of Botswana businesses they are licensed to operate (get a copy of the license) and be sure the expiration date is on it.
Something I wonder about. Will Botswana Citizens be able to continue to supply the quality mobile safaris that people demand?
Will many of the top foreign guides move on to other countries?
