I’ve head the opportunity to visit a lot of places in my life so far. I’ve jumped off waterfalls and rode horses along the beach next to crashed satellites, but none of that can compare to the small village of La Fortuna.

Situated in the centre of Costa Rica, the small village is dwarfed by the colossal Arenal volcano, which, even by night sends a foreboding message. One of the most active volcanoes in the world you can often see small spurts of lava and molten rock being shot out. On July 29th…

I am planning a trip to Costa Rica in late July/early August. We are a family of four- mom, dad and two kids 12 and 9. My husband and I both speak very good Spanish and this is our second trip to Costa Rica. We have traveled quite a bit in various Latin American countries.
We like beaches, rafting and kayaking, wildlife watching and hiking. We are also interested in staying in an ecolodge. We like to have plenty of opportunities to use our Spanish, experience the local culture and don’t…

Hi,
We are planning on travelling to Costa Rica with our young son (5 years) in August for 3 weeks. Which side Caribbean or Pacific gets the least amount of rain during August?

Also, what would people suggest as a rough itinerary? We don't want to spend the whole time travelling - would like to spend some time on the beach, but also get into the rainforest and do some hiking (well as much as you can with a 5 year old). I've also read that during the rainy season, the risk of Dengue can be…

Hello Thorn Tree friends,

I am a teacher in my 60s living in California. I am planning to spend this Summer (mid-June, and July) in San Jose looking for a volunteer job. My Spanish is advanced but I would like to have the opportunity to speak more. Do you know a nice homestay or apartment that you can recommend? Your help is greatly appreciated. CM

Hello community!
I'm a Canadian citizen currently working in Qatar, and I will be traveling to Costa Rica for 3 weeks in August this year! I'm hoping to get some advice for a single guy wanting to enjoy the beaches and hopefully some other single females while on my trip! Any suggestions would be appreciated...best beaches for sand and swimming; good food and sightseeing; and good nightlife!
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers!

I am planning on taking around 10 graduate students to visit indigenous communities in March for about 10 days. Ideally we'll visit and have homestays with three communities, interspersed with visits to see wildlife. I'd love to find a reliable person who can arrange the visits and also arrange for an English speaking driver/guide, van, etc. I'd love to include time with the Boruca, but there are indigenous communities near the Caribbean side that also sound interesting. Suggestions? I know…

Hi All,

I have a couple of spare weeks in November to take some holiday and I'm keen to get out of Europe, seeing as it's going to be getting cold up here then. I've wanted to go back to Latin America for a long time and would like to visit Costa Rica in particular. I'm going to go with my wife, and from my understanding CR is a much gentler introduction to that part of the world then anywhere else!

I'm mostly looking for some advise on what's doable in the time we have. We can push the amount…

I've just gotten the opportunity to take a spontaneous vacation and have settled on Costa Rica. My trip dates are June 3-10th flying in and out of SJO. I'm a mid-20s female traveling solo for the first time and am hoping to get some input as I plan my (too short) visit.

I will arrive at SJO around 1am and will need to find accommodations and a ride from the airport. I figure 7 days is enough time to see a maximum of 3 places and maybe only 2. I'm unsure about how long to spend in each place…

Two intrepid travelers in our 60s are looking for a quiet place by the ocean to rent a condo or house for about a month this winter-Jan/Feb. We love to snorkel and sometimes dive. We plan to rent a car and would like to be within a short drive of restaurants, yoga classes & food shopping but we also want to avoid a party/bar scene. We've been to Costa Rica before but mostly the nature preserves & the Oso Peninsula which was too isolated and very hot when we were there. Any…

My wife and I have a two month house sitting gig in Ojochal. We are both fitness enthusiasts and typically work out with weights daily. We are hoping there is a gym somewhere nearby. Advice??
