Ideas/info for 4 weeks in July/August?

Ola compadres
Teacher here contemplating their summer break. Randomly, the idea of Costa Rica has been suggested, and I confess to knowing absolutely nada about the place. Because I'm a teacher, I don't have the luxury of being able to choose my holiday times, so I'm looking at Late july thru to mid august... and then it's a case of what's there to do? I am aware that it's rainy season, though I've read about the northwest (possible) dry zone too...
SO- ideas/itineraries/suggestions etc. all…

1 Week itinerary - Costa Rica

Hey Travelers! We are a group of friends traveling to Costa Rica from the US this May. We will be there for a week and are looking for suggestions on a 1 week itinerary. We are foodies, outdoor enthusiasts, and looking forward to experiencing the parks, volcanoes, and the flora/fauna of Costa Rica.

Please share your ideas/suggestions, or links to previous forum topics based on a 1 week itinerary!

Best Regards,
Gordon Thomas

Travelling from Costa Rica to Guatemala

I am arriving into San Jose on July 11th and I want to travel onwards to Quetzaltenango in Guatemala. I am a lone female traveller. Would I be better off flying to Guatemala City and taking a bus from there, or is it possible to take the bus the whole way from CR?

Also, I'd be really grateful if anyone could recommend a safe and fun hostel in San Jose for my first night or two.

Thanks,
Heather

Whilst I will be traveling to Costa

Hiring a 4WD

Hi all,

So after finding my dream vacation rental in the jungle about 10km inland from Dominical, I have discovered that due to the remoteness of the place, I will need to hire a 4X4 in order to get around. I have been advised to use Vamos and have been given a contact person there. Have been on their website to get a quote : about $250 for 6 days in June inc. third party insurance. This is cheaper than I expected. Does it seem too good to be true ? Anyone used this comp and have any…

Alajuela Hotel

Hi all,

Been travelling to CR for forever...looking for a private room first night...quiet...hopefully near one of the bus stations to SJ. I have stayed at Alajuela Backpackers 3 times & is getting worse each time...would probably do better $ for a private elsewhere anyway...I love Hotel Los Volcanes but hoping to stay under $35.00 US...any personal experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Safe Travels.

Costa Rican Hail Mary

I hate to be vague and I don't like it when people do this either, but I'm really at a loss as to an area and place to stay in Costa Rica. I appreciate your input and apologize in advance for not giving you more to go on.

I am traveling at the beginning of May, roughly the 7 to 12. Only looking at about 6 days either way. There will be 2 guys traveling together, both 40. Both from Orlando, FL USA.

Our criteria is thus:
Pacific coast, no more than 2 hours from either Liberia or San Jose…

Sloth sanctuary

Hi,
My boyfriend and I are hoping to travel to Costa Rica in late July/August. We are hoping to see wildlife, beaches and do some zip lining but also want to go to the Sloth Sanctuary. I've read the Caribbean coast is very rainy in July/August but the northern pacific side has a slight let up in the rain which makes me think we should spend more time on the northern pacific side. Is it crazy to travel all the way from the Guanacaste area to Limon for the sloths? Can you see sloths on the pacific…

Off shore snorkeling

Where are the best off shore snorkeling spots with easy access by a bus or a car in Costa Rica?
Off-shore = no need for a boat, snorkeling from the beach/shore.
