Taking Parents (ages 75 and 70) on Birthday Trip to Osa Peninsula: would love advice!

Hello fellow travelers,

I am taking my parents on a once-in-a-lifetime, 13 day trip from June 28 to July 11 to CR and would love some advice. My parents' interests are: the rainforest and all things natural, sustainability initiatives, archeology, volcanoes, and getting to know the local culture. Musts include walking/exploring a rainforest canopy, and LOTS of bird watching. We are also on a budget. My parents are generally hardy folks but have not done a lot international travel and are…

Question on 2 1/2 week itinerary and driving in Costa Rica

Hello,

My husband and I will going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. We plan to mix up the trip a bit of adventure and quality R&R. Do love pristine nature... Generally like to make base camp and then scope out the surrounding areas, so as to relaxation, get some quality time, get to know some locals. In terms of activities, would love to do some waterfalls, zip lining, beautiful hikes away from the hoards of tourists and see some amazing and possibly different types of nature (which I…

Is May a good time to travel in Costa Rica?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to visit Costa Rica for two weeks in the second half of May. What I'm a little worried about, is the weather, since rain season starts in that month. I know no guarantees can be given about the weather, but what should I expect? Does it normally just rain one or two hours each day or all day long?

Also, I'm hoping to meet other travelers (I'm a 36-year old female). Will May be very quiet or will it still be easy to meet people? I'm looking forward to your answers!

Manuel Antonio to Playa Del Coco

Hello!
Just trying to plan the last week or so of my trip to Costa Rica and after spending time in Corovado, Uvita and MA, I need to get to Playa del Coco for a couple of days diving at the Bat Islands.

Can anyone suggest a route with a nice stop off for a night or two to break the trip up? Originally wanted to travel up the coast via Samara but don't think I have the time to do so.

Also if anyone has any tips for Coco apart from the diving it would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jen

from Costa rica to south america

Hi everyone!

i'm trying to plan a central-south america trip for septmber...
i would really like to visit both costa rica, and chile (i have good friends in both)
i know it's impossible to cross from central america to south america by land. and every website i look for, the price of flight between Costa-Rica and Chile is about 1000$ (which is just a bit less then the transatlantic flight to get to america)

any ideas?
thanks :)

Manuel Antonio in "Green Season"?

Hi folks - I've been reading some grumpy comments about Manuel Antonio on this forum... but we're thinking of traveling to Costa Rica in mid-August, not the high season. Is it any calmer/less crowded in the summer, or is it always crowded after 9 am? Are there cruise-ship crowds?

One week in Costa Rica

I am taking my 12 year old son to Costa Rica over Spring break April 11-18. We only have 7 days there. I am trying to plan the vacation using advice from my lonely planet guide book but I am overwhelmed. We would like to see a lot of nature, zipline and mostly visit Tortuguero. My plan is Arenal, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio and Tortuguero. Is this too much for 7 days? Is it safe for a woman and a child to drive alone in CR? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Playa Cacao near Gulfito

Hi, we are looking for a simple cabina near the water in Playa Cacao near Gulfito for a 6 day and up to 10 day stay. That area is interesting because it looks like there is good access to a network of hiking trails into a wildlife preserve, it has really good access for me to kayak fish mangrove forests. There are two wildlife sanctuaries within an easy day trip for my 6 and 8 year old kids.

A couple of questions. I see mention of a couple cabinas there in Google Earth, but I cant find…
