A friend in Costa Rica needs some help ASAP

Hi folks,
This is a long shot but worth a try. A friend of mine attended the Envisionfest festival in Costa Rica this weekend, and has a flight to catch Monday morning (in other words today) in San Jose. She needs to be at the airport by around 8am. She can't find her bank card and has no cash on her. It's her and her daughter, she's a responsible person, etc. but is just in a sticky situation. If she misses the flight it will cost her $1,800 to change it so it's imperative she catch this…

Volunteering

I came to Costa Rica to carry out a childcare volunteer project. I had an incredible experience working in La Carpio, one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the San Jose province. I volunteered through Maximo Nivel and came away very impressed by the professionalism and dedication their staff displayed. Overall an excellent experience. Lastly, I must throw David Gonzalez a shout-out. He gave me wonderful advice on teaching English to the kids, and on how to best communicate with them.

1 Night in San Jose

Hello everyone. I know my topic isn't new, but I wanted my own dialogue on it...so here it goes...

I only have one night in San Jose. I'm only staying to catch a morning flight back home. My questions is: Is it worth it to stay in the city of San Jose for the night or should I just book a hotel close to the airport? I will be arriving around 5pm, so will still have a little daylight to roam around. I am female, traveling alone. Wondering if I will be safe walking around after dark. Not…

Three weeks in Costa Rica - itinerary advice

Hello everyone,
We are a couple from Poland, and we are planning a 3-week trip to Costa Rica in April / May. Unfortunately we've only just started to work on our itinerary, so our time for preparations is short, and it's not an easy task especially with so many great places Costa Rica has to offer. So we will be grateful for your advice, as we are a little bit overwhelmed by the possibilities :)

Our general plan is to hire 4WD in San Jose, drive around the country and experience the best Costa

San Jose - cheap, clean accommodation close to airport

Hi fellow travelers,

I unfortunately have a 6 am flight out of San Jose back to Canada but would like to linger on the coast for as long as possible.

I will arrive around 8 pm to San Jose the night before; therefore, I will have to spend the night in SJ to ensure I am at the airport on time.

Rather than sleep in the airport (not even sure if that is an option), is anyone able to recommend a close, clean (read: bedbug free) place to stay so I can get some shut eye before departing home?

I…

Fishing Occidental Grand Papagayo Resort

Hi, I'll be staying at the OGP resort at the end of august. I want to bring my rod and some tackle...was wondering if there is any shore fishing around the area if anyone knows.

I know the resort has a pretty decent sized beach but is there any point to cast from the beach as a last resort?

Thanks in advance!

Final Piece to the Itinary

Planning my trip to Costa Rica later in the year and have my itinerary pretty much locked down but I have one more stop for approximately 3/4 nights. I'm going to be traveling up from Uvita to Arenal and currently have 8 days there which I think will be too long????

So I was thinking of breaking this down to 4 nights and having an extra stop somewhere else. My initial ideas were either, spending a couple of days on my way through in Manuel Antonio or go to Monteverde or Sarapiqui (possibly…

Bypassing San Jose

Hello Fellow Thorn Tree Travellers,

A buddy and I are landing in San Jose from Canada at 8 AM in the morning and really don't want to spend the night in San Jose. What would be a good place on the coast to chill out for a couple of days and get over jet lag?

Appreciate your help
