Until recently, it was relatively easy to get a Chinese visa. The situation has changed beginning about mid March and it is expected to remain unstable until well after the Olympics.
It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get…
As obtaining a Chinese tourist visa appears to have gotten much easier, that long sticky thread has now been released to float. OTOH there appear to be increased concerns and lots of issues related to obtaining a tourist visa extension.
It is my intention to search through and try to collect some posted information here in this thread but would appreciate others offering first hand information and questions here rather than starting multiple threads.
For starters, Leshan has consistently been…
I am considering taking a position working in Discovery Bay but have some concerns about it's proximity to Kolwoon, Central, and some of the outlying islands. It looks like there is only one ferry from Discovery Bay to Central and none to Kowloon. I don't particularly want to live in Discovery Bay and am willing to commute about 45 minutes or less. Any suggestions on places to look for apartments? Thoughts on commuting to DB? There is also Peng Chau but I haven't read or heard too much about it…
Hi we will be in Beijing for one day, Ideally we would like to see the great wall, and then go into Beijing and see Tiananmen Square I know we will not have time to explore the Forbidden city , Oh well next time. Just looking for a English speaking driver that can take is around for the day and into evening. Not looking to go to any souvenir shops or jade factory's. But do want the best Peking duck , some place the locals would go. In the evening we would like to see where the young and hip…
I'll be leaving for China in a couple of days - I wanted to install a VPN on my computer before I left so I could access Google. I just had dinner with a person who has just returned who told me none of the VPNs are working at all well now. Is that generally true or was she just having very bad luck with her choice. All the threads on the ThornTree are more than 7 months old, so not much use given how rapidly things are changing. Anyone there now or just returned who can suggest a VPN that is…
I'm working in Guangzhou, China and love to visit the places in China. I would like to go to visit the places in the weekend - near by Guangzhou or travel by Friday and Back by Sunday - 2 days.
Please kindly let me know the places to visit on weekends and stay 2 nights (Friday & Saturday). Mostly preferred by train/bus to travel and visit the places and some places can go by Air. Guide me how to reach the place and staying recommendation
Thanks in advance !
Today I went from Ma' an to Xijiang using the brand-new high speed train. Total travel time about 7 hours. That's a bit better than the 36 hours it took last year before the new train.
The new Sanjiang South train station is about 10-15 km south of Sanjiang. I think there are buses, but I took taxi from Ma' an to the station which was a good idea as you would be stuffing about in Sanjiang trying to find the bus.
There is a new freeway being built from Sanjiang to the station- and maybe beyond.…
I understand prices in HK are considerably higher than most other places. Would like something clean and safe with private bath if possible (but not required) in a location that is accessible for sightseeing and walking around.I need your advice, thanks!
We are planning a trip to China from 12th of August to 11th of September.
So far our itinerary looks like this:
- Leshan (grand Buddha)
- Chongqing to Yichang by Yangtze river
We would love to go to Guillin, Yangshuo and Hong Kong as well, but have chosen not to go there and have enough time to see the other places. Would this be a realistic itinerary? Should we add something?
How easy is it to go backpacking in China - is it possible…
Hi, I am going to China at the end of June. I live in Melbourne, and reading the Chinese consulate website, the information indicates that to obtain a visa I have to give an intinerary and copies of hotel bookings. I am planning to move around independently so this is complicated. Does anyone have any recent experience of obtaining a visa for China in Melbourne? Did you have to do this? Or how did you get around it?
Many thanks !
