For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Hi Guys!
We are having a slight problem planning my stay at Iguassu. We would love to see both sides of the waterfalls - Brazilian and Argentinian one.
We are arriving at 15:10 on 24/5 (IGU) and leaving at 12:43 (midday) on 27/05 (IGU).
Are the distances far? Where should we get accommodation? We were thinking to stay first night at Brazilian side, second at Argentinian side and third again at Brazilian. How would you do that? And which area should we be staying?

Thank you!

We are after a budget option (absolute maximum £50 a night including taxes/fees, etc) - total £200 for 4 nights. We have looked at the hostels, but mixed reviews. So far, we've looked at an Airbnb property in Ipanema https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/692696 which is a room with a shared bathroom, breakfast - £155 for 4 nights (cheapest). We found a hostel called Leblon All Suites Design which has limited reviews, but private en-suite, for £195 for 4 nights including breakfast, etc and the top…

We are going to be in Minas Gerais for a week or so in July. We are thinking of hiring a car, but we'll be spending a night or two in Ouro Preto & Belo Horizonte. It seems like it's only expensive hotels that have car parking. Is it going to be a total PITA to find reasonably priced secure car parking for a couple of nights in either place?

Greetings, Travellers Are there any Americans out there who have gotten a Brazilian visa in London lately? I have to do it this summer, and the procedure sounds fraught with possibilities for mistakes. One must apply in person, via an appointment which you can make only a few weeks ahead, with specific documentation, etc etc. It seems impossible to call them to ask a specific question, so I'm just going to do everything they say on the website and hope that it works. I'm on a tight time…

Hello, I'm going on a group tour which finishes in Rio and have seven days left afterwards. I'd really like to visit the Lencois Maranhenses National Park even if just for a day or two. I've been reading about how to get there on here but is it possible to get there by yourself? Can one person join a trip from Sao Luis or Barreirinhas? I also don't speak Portuguese (some Spanish). Is it a hopeless dream or can I make it a reality?!
