Considered a young volcano, as it is only 500,000 years old, Piton de la Fournaise is one of the most active volcanoes in the world! Although it is considered non-explosive, it has constant activity and is very active.Piton de La Fournaise, meaning the "Peak of the Furnace", is located on the eastern side of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. This is a very special volcano and is one of the main attractions of the island. The volcanos of Reunion Island are often compared to those of Hawaii as they are also considered non-explosive and are quite active. Because there is little infrastructure surrounding the volcano, the frequent eruptions do not cause much havoc as it is surrounded mainly by caldera. Of the 150 recorded eruptions, there have, however, been 6 reported incidents where the lava has flowed outside of the caldera and caused a lot of damage to nearby villages.
