Getting There & Away
Rederij Doeksen runs regular ferries from Harlingen to Vlieland (adult/child return €26.66/13.26) that take approximately 90 minutes. Departures are typically at 8.30am or 9am, 2pm and 7pm, but schedules change each season. A fast service (€39.36/26.42) takes 45 minutes direct and 90 minutes via Terschelling. Check for good-value seasonal deals: in 2018 the ferry company was offering a day ticket for €25, or €29 including all-day bike rental or bus travel on the island.
In summer De Vriendschap connects Vlieland to nearby Texel island, a 30-minute trip over the shallow waters. Day trips (adult/child €29.50/19.50) depart from Het Posthuys in the centre, where passengers hop aboard the Vliehors Express for a 12km drive across the sand flats to the Vliehors harbour on the west end of Vlieland, from where boats sail to Texel. One-way journeys (€18.50/12) are also possible for those who want to stay on Texel.
