Air

Schiphol International Airport

The Netherlands' major airport, Schiphol, is 60km away. Services include ATMs, currency-exchange desks, car-hire desks, free wi-fi and multiple eating and drinking options.

Transport Options

Frequent Intercity (€12.40, 45 minutes) and Intercity Direct (€14.80, 25 minutes) trains travel between the airport station and Rotterdam Centraal.

A taxi to Rotterdam's city centre from the airport will cost approximately €90 and usually take less than one hour.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport

Serving more than 40 (mainly European) destinations, this international airport, 6km northwest of Rotterdam, is connected to the city by bus or a combination of bus and metro.

Transport Options

RET bus 33 makes the 20-minute run from the airport to Rotterdam Centraal Station every 15 minutes between 5.40am and midnight (€3.50).

It's also possible to take this bus to Meijersplein metro station, from where you can take Line E to Rotterdam; one two-hour ticket (€3.50) will cover both legs of your trip.

A taxi takes 10 minutes to get to the centre and costs around €25.

Bicycle

National bike routes between Amsterdam and Belgium and between Den Haag and Breda pass through Rotterdam. Although the city seems large, 15 minutes of fast pedalling will have you out in the country.

Bikes travel for free on Waterbus services between Rotterdam, Kinderdijk and Dordrecht.

Boat

Waterbus fast ferries travel between Rotterdam, Kinderdijk and Dordrecht; services vary with the seasons. Boats leave from Willemskade near the Erasmusbrug.

Bus

Rotterdam is a hub for Eurolines bus services to the rest of Europe. The Eurolines office is in the Groothandelsgebouw by Centraal Station. Long-distance buses stop nearby.

Car & Motorcycle

National highways A4, A13, A15, A16 and A20 connect Rotterdam with cities and towns throughout the Netherlands. It is possible to drive or ride into the city centre.

Train

Rotterdam's main station is Rotterdam Centraal (CS); trains heading south often stop at Blaak Station after Centraal.

There are frequent high-speed Thalys trains to/from Brussels (1¼ hours), as well as NS Intercity direct services (two hours). Thalys also travels to/from Paris Nord (2½ hours). Eurostar trains linking Amsterdam with Brussels stop here; passengers can change to a London-bound service at Brussels. The full Rotterdam–Paris journey time is around four hours.
