This neighbourhood is the heart of Rotterdam, a resplendent showcase of post-WWII architecture and heavy-hitting cultural institutions. Walking around the city, you'll probably spend more time looking up than ahead, visually sidetracked by the profusion of interesting high-rise buildings. Many of these date from the 1940s and 1950s, but some are new – and extremely exciting – arrivals. Indoors, there are plenty of museums and galleries to visit, as well as an exciting line-up of restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs to investigate.
