The major activity here is cycling and there's an extensive network of bike paths, including a 28km route along the north and south banks of the Nieuwe Maas. Organised tours tend to concentrate on the city's architecture, but the tourist office can organise private tours on alternative themes on request.
There are a number of popular cycling routes in and around the city, including the following:
- Roaming Rotterdam (10 km, map available at the tourist office) Passes iconic architecture and other city highlights.
- Rondje Katendrecht (15 km; https://rotterdam.info/bezoekers-informatie/rondje-rotterdam/) Follows a route along the quays and through Rijnhaven and Maashaven ports; also offers optional extra trips to Katendrecht, the Wilhelminapier and Noordereiland.
- Nieuwe Maasparcours (28 km; www.rotterdam.nl/vrije-tijd/nieuwe-maasparcours/) Divided into seven sections stretched along the north and south banks of the Nieuwe Maas, ranging from 3.5km to 5km. Download details online or pick up a brochure outlining the route at the tourist office.
