The eponymous cheese isn't the only Dutch culinary signature to originate here – the much-loved siroopwafel (crispy biscuits formed by two wafers jammed together with caramel syrup) is a local creation, and can be tasted straight off the production line at Kamphuisen Siroopwafels on the Markt. Specialty cheese shops are scattered across town, but there's a lack of good eateries serving treats, cheesy or otherwise.
