Flights & getting there
Eindhoven Airport, 6km west of the centre, is a hub for budget airlines Ryanair, WizzAir and Transavia. Destinations include London Stansted, Dublin and many Mediterranean and Eastern European cities.
The airport closes at night so you can't sleep in the terminal.
Airexpress buses run to Eindhoven Airport from Amsterdam (€22.50, 1¾ hours) via Utrecht (ring-road stop) and Den Bosch (€8.50, 30 minutes) eight times daily from 4.30am. Last return from the airport is 11pm.
From central Eindhoven, buses 400 and 401 run to the airport up to six times an hour from the north side of Eindhoven train station (with/without OV-card €2.50/3.50, 25 minutes). The 401 route, via Strijp-S, passes what appears to be a flying saucer landing. In fact that's the extraordinary Evoluon, a 1966 retro-futurist creation that was originally built as a Philips research base and museum.
The first airport-bound buses are at 5.34am and 5.49am on weekdays, generally early enough to catch the first flights. That's not true on weekends with first departures at 8.02am/9.02am on Saturday/Sunday.
Via national bike route LF7, Eindhoven to Den Bosch is a day's cycle ride.
International buses depart from a special stop a three-minute walk northwest of the train station, diagonally across pedestrianised Kennedyplein. Flixbus international services run at least five times weekly to Antwerp, Berlin, Brussels, Frankfurt, Lille and Munich plus nightly overnight coaches to London (eight hours) and Paris (5½ hours), costing from €19 prebooked online or €65 from the driver. ICE Bus has four daily runs to Antwerp and Düsseldorf and an overnighter to London. Eurolines/Sinbad.pl have further international services.
Handy connections from Eindhoven Centraal are as follows.
Amsterdam (€19.50, 80 minutes)
Breda (€10.80, 40 minutes)
Maastricht (€17, one hour)
Schiphol Airport (€20.10, 1½ hours)
Tilburg (€7.30, 22 minutes)
Utrecht (€14.50, 50 minutes)
'Sprinter' local trains from Tilburg and Den Bosch allow you to alight directly at Eindhoven Strijp-S station, a five-minute walk from Blue Collar Hotel.
