Welcome to St Helier
Named after Helerius the hermit who once lived where Elizabeth Castle now stands, St Helier is Jersey's capital and its only proper town. With a marina full of yachts and traffic thronging its streets, it's a busy, vibrant town. It may not be Jersey's most picturesque location, but St Helier has a couple of good beaches and several heavyweight attractions of its own. A compact and very walkable city centre and plenty of places to eat, drink and be merry make it an excellent base for exploring the rest of the island.
