For many, shopping in the Bahamas means a quick dash from Nassau's cruise-ship dock to buy Cuban cigars, gems and tacky beachwear. However, look beyond the tawdry and obvious, and there are genuinely distinctive and interesting clothes, handicrafts and comestibles to be found, sometimes in the local straw-markets, and sometimes in outlets that collect wares from far-flung islands. Nassau far outweighs all other centers in terms of choice.
