There has been frustration expressed about the number of similar questions being asked about onward ticket complications. The idea of this thread is that it might be a one stop shop for all the common questions so in future a link might be given to it rather than having to write the same info again and again-
How do I know the info already on Thorntree about this is still current ?
The basic issues about onward tickets have changed little in the last 25 years or more. When there are any…
I've never been to either place, but I hear Bangkok is awesome for solo backpacking/exploring. I haven't heard too much about going to Machu Picchu solo (looks like the four day Inca Trail hike is already booked up). I would be staying for at least a week. Which would be more suitable for a solo trip?
Does anyone have any thoughts concerning sinsod/dowry when marrying a Thai lady in Thailand. I have this dilemma at the moment, whilst wanting to marry my Thai girlfriend I find the financial demands made on a farang groom seem outrageous to me. Supposedly their culture demands that these demands are made upon the groom and it seems to me the brides family are very good at potentially spending the grooms' money even though the amounts involved (B500,000) is money far beyond what they have ever…

I plan to go to Thailand between 21 dec to 2 jan with my wife.
It will be our first time in Thailand. More than that it will be our first travelling experience.
Here is what I have in mind for the places :
---Arrive in Bangkok
---Flight to Chiang Mai
---Flight to Phuket or Krabi
-X Island 4days
The big question is in which island we will stay!
We doesn't like party or bar, more like a quiet place. The idea is to go for day trip around that given island.
---Back to BKK
Sorry for the vague question however it appears this hasn’t been asked recently so could I please have your help:
We are visiting Thailand in 2018 December, visiting Chiang Mai, Ao Nang, Phi Phi, Patong and Bangkok and could I please have a rough guide for prices? I understand Chiang Mai is a lot cheaper than Patong/ Phi Phi however prices for:
Local beer (bars) - estimate
Local spirit and mixer (bars) - estimate
Local street food - estimate
A more “western” meal - estimate
I’m buying a gift for this girl that I’m really into. I was thinking of getting her a Lancome makeup kit for her birthday. She’s into girly stuff but I’m not too sure if she’s very invested with makeups. Although, I saw her a couple of times wearing them. Generally, are single women in Thailand into cosmetics? I’m travelling there in a couple of weeks and I’ll give it to her myself. That is if it’s a good idea. Advice, anyone?
I am in the process of renting a car to do the Mae Hong Son loop. The plan is to do the following route:
Chiang Mai - Doi Inthanon (route 1009)
Doi Inthanon - Mae Chaem (route 1192)
Mae Chaem - Khun Yuam (routes 1088, 1263)
Khun Yuam - Mae Hong Son (route 108)
Mae Hong Son - Pai - Chian Mai (route 1095)
We are 7 people, and I am considering 2 options:
- 1 SUV like Toyota Fortuner (this would be 4x4)
- 2 standard cars like Toyota Vios / Honda City
I am trying to decide if we need a 4x4…
