Welcome to Ko Phra Thong & Ko Ra
Home to around 300 people, this long, slender, wooded island is as quiet as a night on the open ocean. Fishing (squid, prawns, jellyfish) remains its main industry; the local delicacy is pungent gà·þì (fermented prawn paste). On the southern west coast lies 10km of virgin golden-sand beach kissed by blue sea.
Immediately north is barely inhabited Ko Ra, encircled by golden beaches and mangroves. This small isle is a mountainous jungle slab with impressive wildlife, including over 100 bird species, leopard cats, flying lemurs, wild pigs, monitor lizards, scaly anteaters and slow lorises.
