Getting There & Away

The road between Lushoto and Mtae is full of turns and hills, and is particularly beautiful as it winds its way up the final 7km to Mtae. Buses depart Lushoto (Tsh5000, three hours) about 10am. There are also direct daily buses to Mtae from Arusha (Tsh17,000, nine hours), Dar es Salaam (Tsh17,000, nine hours) and Tanga (Tsh15,000, six to seven hours). Taxis from Lushoto charge from about Tsh70,000. For those staying in Mambo, negotiate with the driver to take you all the way or ask to get dropped at the Mtae–Mambo junction, from where it's about 2km further on foot to Mambo village, Mambo Cliff Inn and Mambo Viewpoint Eco Lodge.
