This is a popular route up steep paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridgeleading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traversesbeneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Icefields to join the BarafuRoute to the summit. An extra day could be added to the itinerary, best spent onthe Shira Plateau, where you could walk to the Shira Needles. Strong groupscould omit camping at Karanga River. The Mweka Route is used for the descent.Accommodation on the mountain is in tents which the porters will pitch for you.You will need a sleeping bag, warm clothes and walking poles. This is a steep,tough trek within the limits of a fit individual used to walking in mountain areas
Day 1: ARRIVAL.On your arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport (JRO) or Arusha our representative willpick you from airport and then transfer to hotel in Moshi for Dinner and overnightat  Panama garden resort .Day 2 : MACHAME GATE TO MACHAME CAMP (10,000 ft).You will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi at 8:30 Am and then transfer tomachame gate.Today you begin your trek from Machame park entrance gate, through a denseforest of fig and rubber trees, begonia flowers and other tropical vegetation. A walk of about two to three hours will take you to this evening’s campsite.Day 3  : MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA PLATEAU (12,500 ft)Enjoy the fabulous view of Uhuru Peak as it greets you this morning.Today’s trek takes you up a steep track through a savannah of tallgrasses, volcanic rock and bearded heather. You will encounter giantgroundsels as you hike through an ethereal landscape of volcanic lava,caves and foaming streams.Day 4  : SHIRA PLATEAU TO BARRANCO CAMP (13,000 ft).On your 6 a.m. wake-up call today, you will find the entire Shira Plateauat your feet, with sweeping views across to Mount Meru and the ShiraNeedles. A steady walk takes you up to the pass at Lava Tower (15,000 ft),where you will stop to have lunch. After crossing the Bastains stream, youbegin the descent towards Barranco Camp.Day 5 : BARANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP (, 13,000 ft). Climb Baranco wall to Karanga camp for resting and acclimatization 3 hoursHiking Day 6  : KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP (15,200 ft).The lovely scenic climb to Barafu is mostly on alpine desert terrain; amainly mineral environment with few lichens and mosses. Mawenzi Peaktowers majestically to the right and Kibo Peak seems just a stone’s throwaway.Day 7  : ASCENT TO SUMMIT (19,430 ft) / DESCENT TO MWEKA CAMP(10,200 ft). It is a this stage that the climb becomes much more difficult and hikersshould carry as little as possible for this stage which starts atmidnight. Temperatures range from -4 degrees to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.Climbing steadily, flanked by the Ratzel and Rebman glaciers, for aboutsix hours will bring you to the edge of the crater between Stella and HansMeyer points. Another hour of climbing brings you to the summit.Day 8 : MWEKA CAMP TO THE GATECongratulate yourself today on your great achievement! Day 9 : START YOUR SAFARI/TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT.

Itinerary
