You will get a chance to enjoy your sampling at Karakana after preparation. A locally handcrafted spoon and recipe book will be given at the end of the experience. Lounge in one of the outside day beds and enjoy unlimited snacks, soft beverages, wifi, printing, as well as a locked area for luggage. Pickups and drop offs are available at the Pugu Secondary Bus Stop. While the length of time for this experience is 1 hour, an average recommended time for a visit at Karakana is 2-6 hours and can be booked from 7am to 5PM.  Each experience is capped at 10 people for the day (from 7AM to 5PM) & goes to support youth and people affected by stigma in Tanzania.

Once you arrive at Karakana for the cooking experience, you will be greeted with a welcome drink and cool cloth to refresh. You will then meet your host and be guided on the cultural significance of food and the traditional cooking techniques used in Tanzania. Next, you will prepare a local dish with your coordinator, savoring local spices and flavors. After the cooking and preparation, you will enjoy a taste testing of the meal prepared as well as a sampling of other traditional foods in Tanzania. A traditional locally carved spoon and recipe book will be given at the end of the experience. After the class is finished, enjoy either a continental or Swahili meal and explore the curated selection of handicrafts from artisans across Tanzania.
