I really can't decide how to visit the Pamir highway.
I will be travelling solo in September coming from Uzbekistan, so doing the Dushanbe, Khorog, Osh route, and will have around 7-9 days with my current plan.
Can't make my mind up on whether to go it alone or join an organised tour for 11 days.
I think my main question is, does the money I save going solo balance with the time I save going organised?
We are doing the Wakhan Valley in June and had planned to get an Afghanistan visa in Khorog to spend one day in Ishkashim, Afghanistan. Our agency informed us that because of Taliban spring offensive near Ishkashim that the Afghan consul is not issuing Afghan visas because of security but the Afghan army had regained the territory the Taliban took over . Is the Khorog Afghan consul still not issuing tourist visas for the Ishkashim border crossing? Would appreciate any info.

12.06 - 14.06 - we'll be trekking in Jizew valley with a guide. In the evening of 14th we should be in Khorog and ready to start driving again in the morning of 15th.

We, Julie (28) and Andreas (26), a couple from France and Germany will be traveling through Asia this summer and will do a stop in Tadjikistan.
We plan to be in Khorog for the cultural Festival "Roof of the World" (27-29 July). We would come from Dushanbe. Afterwards we would like to do 2 or 3 things and we are looking for travel mates who would like to share these experiences with us:
- discover the Wakhan Valley by car (from Khorog to Langar) in two-three days
- discover the Jizev…
I have read many reports of corruption at Dushanbe airport ( when leaving).
I plan to fly out of Dushanbe early in the morning.
How common is this? I've read a lot about it on tripadvisor (within the last 6 months)
Border guards will apparently ask for money, and tell you not to lie?
Has anyone had any experience with this? What about frisking? If I have it hidden, could I be stripped naked byan officer?
I can't find anything about a certain amount of money that one is allowed to leave…
I have just been told that my flight from Bishkek to Dushanbe for next week is cancelled. In fact Tajik Airways cancelled all flights and are no longer flying this route.
This means my whole planning for the coming two months is upsidedown... :-(
I managed to book a flight from Bishkek to Osh and will travel overland from there.
The part Khorog to Osh via the pamir highway was already on my itinarary and have i already been planning Before.
What i am looking for now is the best way to get to…
We'll be traveling to Tajikistan this September and want explore parts of the Fann and Zarafshan mountains; the aim is to start in Panjakent (having crossed the border from Samarkand)and finish in Dushanbe, from where we'll fly home. While the itinerary for the trip isn't fixed yet, it's likely we'll have 4-5 days in the mountains, allowing a day or two in Dushanbe at the end.
We won't be self-sufficient for camping, cooking etc (nor do we want to be), so ideally we'll hire a car and…
