With an open-sided verandah overlooking an orchard, travellers sit for hours here swapping tales and it's become a firm favourite with overlanders, cyclists and independent travellers. Rooms are mostly simple with mattresses on raised platforms except for three lux rooms (US$40 including breakfast and wi-fi), which have en suite toilets. It's a 25-minute walk to town (20TJS by taxi).
The lodge was established in 1991 to fund the local jamoat khana (Ismaili prayer hall), which is in the grounds. It’s hard to find at night, through gates west of Gagarin School (School 7). Luggage storage costs US$1 per bag per month.
