Magong Old Wall

A quick walk west along Zhongshan Rd from central Magong takes you to Shuncheng Gate, the only restored portal in the largely overgrown old city wall.

After the occupying French left the city in 1885, much of the wall was knocked down by the Japanese. Today, parts of what remains are overrun by cacti and aloe plants the size of ponies, but some of the neighbourhoods nearby are worth exploring
