The little town of Châtel-St-Denis, 13km northeast of Vevey via the A12, warrants a visit solely for its legendary fondue moitié-moitié (made with Gruyére and Vacherin Fribourgeois) cooked up at this much-loved, family-run and very traditional restaurant. You'll pay around Sfr25 per person for your poking at the fondue pot (called a 'caquelon').

Take bus 213 from Vevey Station to Châtel-St-Denis Gare (Sfr5.60, 30 minutes), the end of the line.
