For a dollop of medieval atmosphere, you can’t beat this 12th-century hilltop fortress with cracking views over the rooftops of Stein am Rhein. Tuck into Swiss classics such as beef braised in Pinot noir or local trout cooked in Riesling in the Rittersaal (Hall of Knights). It’s a 30-minute uphill walk from the Old Town.
