Welcome to Pays de Fribourg

Gourmands will be lured by nearby Gruyères, not so much for its sprinkling of pleasant rural villages, but for the eponymous, world-renowned Appellation d’Origine Contrôllée (AOC) cheese and the opportunity to see first-hand how it's been made for centuries.

Tie up your visit with a soak in the thermal waters and outdoor activities of charming Charmey, and Pays de Fribourg presents a tempting package indeed. Just be sure to brush up on your French and your German – the region's unique Röstigraben (linguistic divide) means that the region's western towns speak French, while the eastern speak German.
