I am coming to Switzerland in late May, and I'd like to do a 2-3 day hiking trip - perhaps stay in some of the alpine huts that Switzerland is famous for. I am an experienced hiker and would love a rugged route with a good mix of scenery, but easily accessible from either Geneva or Les Diablerets. Let me know if you have any good route suggestions. Do you have to book huts in advance? Is yodeling from mountaintops still encouraged? Any other info a first time visitor with no language skills…
Hi all. We will be staying in Montreux for four nights this July during the festival and I understand it is usually quite busy during said festival, so we want to get out of Montreux and explore the Lac Léman area during the days before returning to attend the evening music.
I was wondering which towns would be best to make a day trip to that are not crowded. Our interests are food/wine and music. We would be content with a small town that we can easily walk around, and then have a nice…
I am traveling to Switzerland in July and my tour ends at Lucerne. I am planning to do one day trip in Glacier express. What is the route to follow? At which station I can catch glacier express which is near to Lucerne. Is it a good idea to catch Glacier express train from Andermatt and go till St. Moritz and stay there? Or From Lucrene, I should go to Zermatt and go up to St. Moritz (or vice versa) and take full route.
We have been working on an itinerary for this summer travel from USA, in July. Based on feedback, here is another version. Appreciate any feedback. Some queries -
- what is the exact website for Euro rail - to book tickets and check train timings
- is there a non-stop train from Interlaken to Salzburg?
- for Salzburg to Rome, is there a non-stop day train? The only non-stop I found was an overnight one.
- would we require to rent a car anywhere? I know inter-city train system is good. But what…
Me and my girlfriend are plannig on going to 2 or 3 cities in Switzerland as part of our honeymoon next year in february. Which cities would you guys recommend? We're thinking on choosing between Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Geneva, Lausane, Lucerne. We are going to be in a "relax" mood, so we want to get the best views, some museums and historic landmarks. Also, if any of you guys could recommend us a place to go skiing in any of those cities, would be awesome.
Please keep in mind…
In late August-early September of this year I will be spending roughly 2 weeks in Switzerland and was hoping to get some advice for an itinerary!

- Montreaux (Or anywhere you recommend around lake Geneva)
I will be coming in from Innsbruck, Austria, and am flying out of Zurich.
I would love to see as many places as I can, but…

Hi, I'm looking to do a hike either around Zermatt or ending in Zermatt towards the end of June. I have been looking at the Eiger/Matterhorn trail but I can't find much information about it? Does anyone know where I can get a gpx of this route and does anyone have any other suggestions for 5-7 days hikes in the area. I am fit and hike the mountains in Hong Kong regularly but I have no experience with glaciers so would want to stay away from this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)
My wife and I are planning a 2 week trip to northern Italy and Switzerland. We're staying in MIlan for a few days, then Bellagio, then I want to take the Bernina Express to Fluelen and/or Luzern.
My first question is about the train tickets. Shopping for the tickets is very confusing with all the various passes etc. Basically this is our only train journey on this trip, but I wonder if one of the passes will help us get a discount on either 1st or 2nd class seats on the Bernina. Can anyone…
