One of Switzerland’s most famous dairy products – holey Emmental cheese, from where the simplified term 'Swiss cheese' comes – has its very origins in this rural idyll northeast of Bern. The gateway towns of Burgdorf and Langnau preside over these verdant lowlands – a mellow patchwork of rustic chalets, thatch-roofed storehouses and grazing cows plonked among fields of gold and green.
As lovely as all that sounds (and in actuality, is), the charm of the farm is not likely to be the reason you'll want to come here. Let's face it, it's all about the cheese.
If you're a lover of the soft, nutty, stringy, melty, gooey stuff, you're in for a real treat of tastings, opportunities to learn about the long history of the 'brand', demonstrations, shopping from the farm door, and did we mention eating lots of cheese already?
