Arosa attracts skiers of all levels with 225km of pistes, combined with Lenzerheide, rising as high as Weisshorn at 2653m. Big-air fans should check out the half-pipe and fun park. Cross-country skiing is equally superb, with 30km of prepared Loipen (tracks) stretching from Maran's gentle forest trails to challenging routes at La Isla and Ochsenalp.
There's plenty to amuse families and nonskiers in winter. You can stomp through the snow on 40km of prepared winter walking trails, twirl across an open-air ice rink, or rock up for a game of curling.
Arosa's backyard has 200km of maintained hiking trails. Scenic options include the 3½-hour uphill trudge to Weisshorn and the easy forest rambles shadowing the Plessur to Litzirüti (one hour) and Langwies (two hours). Kids love to spot red squirrels on the Eichhörnchenweg.
Mountain bikers are in their element with 700km of trails to explore. For knuckle-whitening thrills, hire a downhill bike to race from Mittelstation to Litzirüti or from Hörnli to Arosa; both tracks involve descents of more than 500m.
