The ‘Red Boat’ is a hotel and hostel on two vessels, Mälaren and Ran. The hostel section is the cosiest of Stockholm’s floating accommodations: lots of dark wood, nautical memorabilia and friendly staff. Linens are included in the price. Hotel-standard rooms are bigger, with blond wood, maritime paintings and breakfast; sea-view rooms are worth the extra 200kr or so.
Set over 2 boats, this hostel is anchored at Riddarfjärden Bay of Lake Mälaren in central Stockholm. It provides a restaurant with bar and 2 sun terraces with outdoor furniture. Each simply decorated room at Den Röda Båten includes wooden furnishings, bed linen and a wardrobe. Most cabins have shared bathroom facilities, which are located in the hallway. Superior cabins include a private bathroom. Some cabins feature views of the lake. Free WiFi is available in the communal TV room and the 24-hour reception that can also arrange bicycle rental. A daily breakfast buffet is available at Röda Båten. Lunch and dinner options include traditional classics, such as spaghetti Bolognese and the Swedish shrimp sandwich. Slussen Metro Station and the city’s historic Old Town are both within 650 metres of the hostel. The trendy Södermalm district, 10 minutes’ walk away, offers a wide selection of shopping, dining and nightlife choices. Stockholm Central Station is a 3-minute Metro ride away.
