Welcome to Riksgränsen
In the early 1900s there was so much snow and life was so hard that the 500 residents were forced to move away. The 1902 completion of the Ofotenbanan railway linking Kiruna and Narvik in Norway set things in motion, though. Some 26 years later the Swedish Ski Club started making overnight trips to the area, and once the first ski lift was installed in 1952, Riksgränsen took off. And it's not just for winter-sports enthusiasts. Riksgränsen is also popular for winter testing of pre-production cars by a number of European manufacturers.
