Welcome to Hemavan Tärnaby

Tärnaby, an elongated one-street village that sits on the shores of Gäutan lake, is known as the birthplace of double Olympic gold-medallist skier Ingemar Stenmark. Hemavan, its smaller counterpart 18km north, is the southern entry point to the 500km Kungsleden trail that passes through the Vindelfjällens Nature Reserve, and both are popular bases for fresh-air fiends. There's everything from excellent hiking and skiing to checking out holy mountains, from descending steep slopes on mountain bikes in a shower of mud and scree to sedate pedalling around lakes.
