Getting There & Away
The E16 and E18 motorways run west–east across Central Sweden, while the E45 shoots north. Roads in the area are plenty and in generally good condition, wherever you go. Having your own wheels will give you the freedom and flexibility to explore – there's so much to be found off the beaten track.
If you're not a self-driver, don't fret. The area has an extensive, efficient and relatively inexpensive network of public transport operators.
Karlstad, Örebro and Västerås are the transport hubs of the south, while Falun and Mora are the gateways to the north.
SJ Rail coverage to smaller and more remote towns is surprisingly good, and those that don't have rail connections, are usually serviced by a bus operator.
Both Västerås and Nyköping have low-cost international airports which have been claimed, somewhat unfairly, as Stockholm's own.
