Checking flights...

There are two airports in Paramaribo: nearby Zorg-en-Hoop, for domestic and Guyana flights; and the larger Johan Pengel International Airport, 45km south of Parbo, usually referred to as Zanderij and used for all other flights.

Bus & Minibus

Minibuses to Brownsberg and Atjoni (SR$50 to SR$70, three hours) leave from the corner of Prinsenstraat and Saramacastraat. Public buses to Nieuw Nickerie (SR$20 to SR$40, four hours) and other western destinations leave throughout the day from the corner of Dr Sophie Redmondstraat and Hofstraat. For a private minibus, ask your hotel for a list of prices and companies that will pick you up. To Albina, public buses (SR$8.50, 140km, three hours) leave hourly and private buses (SR$30, 3½ hours) leave when full from Waterkant at the foot of Heiligenweg.

Both Avis and Budget have offices at the Hotel Torarica and the airport. Compact cars rent from SR$85 per day, and 4WDs are also available.

Taxis are fast and many work on a share system. Most share taxis are minivans that hold up to eight people and if you leave town in the morning, they fill quickly. Expect to pay SR$70 per person to Albina and SR$100 per person to Nieuw Nickerie. Ask your hotel to contact a driver for you.
