Refresh mind, body, and spirit along the Zadar Riviera

Dreaming about a peaceful, worry-free and calming holiday after a year of uncertainty? Look no further than Croatia’s sublime Zadar Riviera.

Zadar sits at the edge of the stunningly blue Adriatic, and its Mediterranean climate, rich culture and natural beauty make it the ideal destination for a relaxing and restorative adventure abroad.

There’s no better place to start unwinding than the beach. Zadar lies on the coast and is the jumping off point for many nearby islands, including Dugi Otok. This island is a hidden gem, known for white pebble beaches like Saharun.

Ferries run year-round several times a day from Zadar to Dugi Otok. The island has several villages but is best known for its natural beauty. In addition to beaches, it has cliffs, islets, forests, orchards and vineyards.

Orchards and vineyards aren’t just found on Dugi Otok. The whole Zadar region is known for producing grapes for wine and olives for olive oil, as well as figs, salt, sheep’s milk cheese, seafood, and more.

All of the delicious local cuisine is the perfect way to fill up before or after exploring some of Zadar’s more adventurous sites, such as Paklenica National Park, known for its dramatic landscapes featuring mountains and gorges.

Paklenica is located about an hour’s drive from the city and offers a wide range of activities. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely scenic hike or you want to challenge yourself to a more intense climb, there’s plenty to see and do.

The city of Zadar offers plenty of excitement as well. Even though the city’s Roman forum was struck by an earthquake in the sixth century, you can still sense how busy it would have been as the center of civic and religious life for centuries.

For a moment of peace and quiet, visit the Zadar Cathedral. The Roman Catholic church’s façade dates to the 12th century, although its history dates back even further. The ornate decorations inside blend Gothic and Romanesque styles.

And the perfect way to end a rejuvenating trip to Zadar is to catch a sunset. Director Alfred Hitchcock once stated that Zadar’s sunsets were the most beautiful in the world. The city’s sea organ is a popular spot to watch the show.
