Valencia has rich cultural offerings, with lots of live music, theatre, sports and decent cinemas. Various magazines and booklets available at tourist offices and newspaper kiosks are handy for checking upcoming events. These include AU (www.au-agenda.com), Hello (www.hellovalencia.es) and Cartelera Turia (www.carteleraturia.com).
Football is big in Valencia, and going to a game is a great experience. There are two main teams. The big brother is Valencia CF, in recent decades one of Spain's more successful teams. Its long-scheduled move to a new stadium in the northwest of town is still on hold. Levante UD has lesser resources, is beset with financial problems and has traditionally yo-yoed between the top and second divisions.
