Destination Today

Like many other places in Spain, San Sebastián suffered heavily during the Global Financial Crisis, with soaring unemployment and a housing crisis that sent many young jobseekers out of the country. Since 2016, however, the city has been on the rebound. Unemployment has fallen to 9% (less than half of Spain’s total), and the municipality has launched new programs aimed at reversing the city’s brain drain. San Sebastián has also become hub of innovation, and various research and tech companies have arrived in the past decade.
