In a bid to both prettify the buildings of the town and promote local artistic talent, several years ago Puerto del Rosario embarked on an ambitious program of mural painting across the city. These murals – some colossal and others more discreet – have made a terrific impact on the town, adding vibrant splashes of colour and imagination.
Perhaps the best known is the bold Superheroes mural near the main bus station – you can find it on the northwestern corner of Avenida Diego Miller and Calle Primero de Mayo. Another excellent art work – with a white and turquoise colour-coordinated building above it – is the turtle and fish along Calle García Escámez as it nears Avenida Reyes de España. Ask at the tourist office for a map detailing all the murals.
