Start this 9-hour small-group tour from Barcelona in a comfortable coach to the town of Cardona. Visit the modern fortress and parts of the old Castle of Cardona while the guide fully explains the history of this town. Start your visit at the Cardona Salt Mountain. This dome-shaped geological landmark occupies a depression in the terrain with an elongated ellipse shape that's 5,900 feet (1,800 meters) long by 1,900 feet (600 meters) wide, and encompasses an area of 240 acres (100 hectares). This natural sight's unique features have led it to be designated by the Catalonian government in its "Plan for Spaces of Natural Interest."You will then continue to Cardona Castle. Visit the Castle's modern fortress before exploring parts of the old Castle of Cardona, built in 886 by Wilfredo “el Velloso” (the Downi). The old castle was designed in the romanesque and gothic style and includes the so-called "Golden Room" and the "Sala dels Entresols." You'll also get to check out the castle's main highlight, the 50-foot (15-meter) tall Tower of the Minyona from the 11th century, as well as the romanesque church of San Vicente de Cardona.
